Club Champions of 2022

Our Club Champions of 2022 were crowned last Sunday after a cold day on course.

Match Reports:

Seniors: In this prestigious division we had Darren Oliver tackling the youthful Ryan Rooney who was looking to make his 'three'peat in 2022. "Ollie" who was the last Club Champion before Rooney stepped onto the MGC scene and coming off the back of some impressive rounds in recent weeks still had a task ahead of him to re-claim the trophy. Cooler conditions didn't prevent these two still striking long balls down fairways which were eye opening to many a spectator on-looking. "Ollie" who put in a solid personal round playing to handicap, still battled around the first lap of 18 against the talented youngster who was 6up. Rooney couldn't see off his opponent until the 28th hole in a match played in good spirits and the gentlemen shook hands. Well Done Ryan Rooney - Seniors Club Champion 2022

Intermediates: In this division we saw Ryan Bremner, last years Junior B Club Champion stand tall against our 2021 Intermediate Club Champion and Club Captain Kalvin Field in a nail biting match. The young Bremner put on a grand display of golf through 18, playing shots that the crowd applauded on numerous occasions, Ryan held his nerve as he dominated his opponent to be 4up. Playing into the second leg of the match and as the crowd grew larger, Kalvin began to re-gain control and get himself back to square after 27 holes. Ryan had run of misfortune in the following holes in which Kalvin capitilised on and saw the match out on the 35th hole. Kalvin commended Ryan in his speech for a battle of a match and we all at MGC can't wait to see what Ryan can achieve in the future. Well Done Kalvin Field - Intermediate Club Champion 2022

Junior A: Returning Champion Adrian Duncan had friend as foe in this finals match with Terry Hammond. These gents took great attitudes out with them for 18 holes in which Terry came through 9 holes with the advantage of being 3up. The cool winters day proved a challenge as Terry's lead was vanquished after 13 holes and they teed off of 14 all square. A great matchup ensued with "Dunkie" being 1up heading down the last in which he was able to close out and retain his trophy for 2022. Well Done Adrian Duncan - Junior A Club Champion 2022

Junior B: Our Junior B final this year was played out by 2 new members to the club which was a delight to see. The match tipped in favour of our resident Frenchman Maxime Ramiroz early on however Andrew Clarke didn't let the holes come easy. These two had a share of brilliant shots played throughout the match but it was the putting surface that led Max to be 4up after 9. "Clarkey" soldiered on with halves but couldn't get back on his opponent and after 13 holes the pair shook hands after what they said was "a brilliant day". In a humble speech, Max dedicated this victory to his Grandfather. Well Done Maxime Ramiroz - Junior B Club Champion 2022

Ladies Silver: Jenny Ritchie has serious pedigree at MGC, having won numurous titles across the years. When news broke that Bron Bielby was 5up after 18, all thought that this was the year a new name went back up on our honours board. Bron put on a magnificient display of golf to get herself in the leading position she was, however, a masterclass from Jenny came through which changed the scripture back into her favour. The crowd lined the 34th hole, holding their breath as they watched on at some mighty fine golf being played infront of them with Jenny's par trumping Brons bogey to finsih 3&2. The pair hugged it out and Jenny spoke highly of Bron in her speech as saying " it was a delight to watch you play today". Well Done Jenny Ritchie - Ladies Silver Club Champion 2022

Ladies Bronze I: Postponement

Ladies Bronze II: This finals match was a repeat of last years in which Desi Singer triumphed over Ros Morrision. 2022 saw the the opposite with nerves getting the better of our title holder alongside a great game played by Ros. Desi humbled and Ros gracious in victory, the duo both showing great spirits after finishing on the 14th. Well Done Ros Morrison - Ladies Bronze II Club Champion 2022
