Marton Golf Clubs Senior Club Champion Ryan Rooney has traveled to the deep south this week to attend the NZ Mens Amateur Championship at the historic Otago Golf Club which celebrates its 150th anniversary.
The field of 76 strong amateurs from around the country play 2 rounds of strokeplay with the top 32 qualifying for the matchplay finals.
Ryan sees himself qualify at 14th seed heading into today's first elimination round of matchplay after 2 impressive days on course with strokeplay rounds of +1 and +2 respectively which included 2 Eagles, 3 Birdies and 21 Pars.
MGC wishes him all the best for his matchplay contests.

Ryan Rooney has yet again done Marton Golf Club proud with his performance at the NZ Mens Amateur Championship.
After 2 strokeplay rounds that had him only 8 shots off the lead, Ryan qualified amongst the Top 32 Amateurs to play on in the matchplay finals.
A tough battle today on course, which saw the advantage between Ryan and his opponent to and fro throughout the match, with a result of being all sqaure after 18, the two then went down the 19th.
A gut wrenching end to Ryan's run as he lost this hole and has not advanced to the last 16.
We here at MGC marvel at your achievements Ryan and applaud you for your performance and the way you conduct yourself on the big stages.
Well done, see you back at MGC soon.
