A true bout this matchup was between the neighbouring courses on Sunday.
Remaining with the freshly formatted team from the previous round, our boys moseyed down the road to familiar territory at Rangitikei Golf Club for an important game.
Rangitikei needing to bank points for any finals aspirations and Marton also looking to take points to solidify a spot in the Top 8.
Our new number 1 Aron Bremner prided himself with a return to Presidents and was joyous in the fact that he was also being given a shot which hasn't happened for a long while. With spirits already on high, Aron with Captain Stu led us off with a postive return home. The main men coming in with 2 of 3 points on offer with AB winning 4&3 and a Half from Stu and the 4Ball. Excellent.
Ryan Bremner was on a redemption mission and put his opponent to the sword with a convincing 5&4 victory, unable to help partner Colin out in the 4Ball late in the piece with the 18th proving costly as the 4Ball was lost along with Colin's singles match 2&1.
Returning to arms was Adrian Duncan who delivered with a 2Up victory around the course he knows so well, Glenn Jongen not giving up his match either going down to the wire on the last hole and unfortunately coming off second best, again, along with the 4Ball.
Our new 7 & 8 looked to prove themselves, young Jayme Bremner establishing an early lead and gaining an all important point for the team whereas Tom Bliss-Bennett was smothered by his opponent 6&4. The pair had the 4Ball alive and well, playing down the 18th all Sqaure with a birdie putt and par putt to seal the victory - but walked off with a disappointing Half.
Overall Result 5.5 - 6.5 defeat.
Thank you Rangitikei for a great battle and hosting us in tremendous fashion.
A commendable effort by the MGC team albeit coming away with a loss, however collecting enough points to stay within the Top 8 and securing ourselves a Quarter-Final birth.
The Team is eager for a rematch against a very formidable Table topping Taihape side, but we can't wait to get stuck in.
